"You have been taught, through society's dictates, that the only path to spirituality is one of absolute selflessness. ...Throughout your years, we (angels) have watched you be taught that sacrifice is the only path unto God. - That is a pagan belief. That belief came from the priests of old, who wanted the people to remain poor and wholly ignorant of their own value, and unaware that they were gods. Now that we have taken away your idea of going out and doing great things for others, what should we put in its stead? ...Balance, Beloveds. 'To thine own self be true' is a great truth. Only when you are aware and dedicated to your self-awareness can you be of any service to others... service to others comes later.
You will go out, and you will serve mankind because that is part of the growth pattern. But, you cannot do it at the sacrifice of your own spiritual selves - that is what most of you are doing. You believe that the more you give, the more you become. When you reach the point where you truly understand that statement, it will be so. But until then, you are scattering your energies and depriving yourselves of the precious communication between you and the Father.
...Discernment is key to maintaining balance. When you are able to discern where a genuine requirement of your time and energy actually lies - as opposed to what another would have you believe - you will have come to a point where you will be able to give to the masses; and yet, you will not be depleting or shortchanging yourselves. You will have come to the point where you will know whether you are helping another upwards or whether you are helping them to entrench themselves right where they are. ...First of all, let me say, I am not opposed to anyone helping another. ... But, I have watched each one of you allow another to take from you that which is rightfully yours because you felt that you had to help.
Let us discern between true help and the help that you think is help. Suppose another were to come to you and say, 'Ah, behold, I am distressed in this manner. Can you help me in some form?' When you give them the assistance that you can, and they take it, thank you, leave, and are better for it - that is help. ...To help another, you give them tools to work with. If they choose not to use the tools but rather come back and expect you to do it for them, then you have been caught in a trap in which you are not using your discernment.
There are those in your world who will forever take from you. To truly help them on their spiritual path, you must close your door to them. ...By walking their path for them, you are not assisting your fellow being to a higher way of life; you are getting drawn in the trenches with them - that is not helpful to you or to them. So, discernment is an important part of your Soul's growth upward - to discern when you are helping and when you are not."
